15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

18Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 19They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. 20But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 21I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 22Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 23Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 24Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

26These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

28And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 29If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

Words of John the baptist that shine more light on infant baptism

verse 2- What sin does a child have to repent from?

v6- How can an infant confess to sin? This is a part of baptism: the one being baptized must be aware that they are in/have sin. An infant would not be aware of their own sins (if they had any) or of Adams, the first man.

v8-v10- The "fruits" of an infant are barely existent, let alone wicked. The tree that brings forth wicked fruit is cut down: a child will not be cut down for the rotten fruit of its parents/fathers/forefathers. Each tree is inspected and determined individually.

What does the Bible teach concerning infant baptism?

Therefore it is against the teachings of the Bible, God's word, that a child must be baptized to be saved.
They are not condemned by the sins of the parents (there is no such thing as original sin), and we are taught by Jesus that to enter heaven we must have the faith of a child. Their faith is perfect in the very fact that they are children, and they have no sin to wash away.
If they die without baptism they are not condemned to hell/purgatory/limbo as the Roman Catholic church contends.

Matthew 18:14Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

Pope John Paul II was really into praising Mary, so he was really into error.

-Mary cannot be the Mother of God as the RCC claims (CCC paragraph 963, 971, 975, 2675), because God's name, JEHOVAH, means self-existant, or eternal, therefore no one and nothing came before him. God does not have a mother.

-Mary is not the All Holy-One as the CCC states in paragraph 2677; Jesus is the Holy One (keyword= ONE, meaning singular. He and Mary cannot share the same title).

Luke 4:

³³And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice,

³⁴Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.

³⁵And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.

³⁶And they were all amazed, and spake among themselves, saying, What a word is this! for with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out.

Isaiah 48:

¹¹For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.

-There is no salvation in Mary (CCC 969)

Hosea 13:

⁴Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

-RCC claims Mary is the Queen of Heaven (CCC 966). Here's what God says about that woman in the Bible:

²Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

¹²And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all be consumed, and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall die, from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach.

¹³For I will punish them that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:

¹⁴So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return to dwell there: for none shall return but such as shall escape.

¹⁵Then all the men which knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah, saying,

¹⁶As for the word that thou hast spoken unto us in the name of the LORD, we will not hearken unto thee.

¹⁷But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goeth forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem: for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹⁸But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have been consumed by the sword and by the famine.

¹⁹And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her, without our men?

²⁰Then Jeremiah said unto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all the people which had given him that answer, saying,

²¹The incense that ye burned in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, ye, and your fathers, your kings, and your princes, and the people of the land, did not the LORD remember them, and came it not into his mind?

²²So that the LORD could no longer bear, because of the evil of your doings, and because of the abominations which ye have committed; therefore is your land a desolation, and an astonishment, and a curse, without an inhabitant, as at this day.

²³Because ye have burned incense, and because ye have sinned against the LORD, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, nor walked in his law, nor in his statutes, nor in his testimonies; therefore this evil is happened unto you, as at this day.

²⁴Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of the LORD, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:

²⁵Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.

²⁶Therefore hear ye the word of the LORD, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith the LORD, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, The Lord GOD liveth.

²⁷Behold, I will watch over them for evil, and not for good: and all the men of Judah that are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by the famine, until there be an end of them.

²⁸Yet a small number that escape the sword shall return out of the land of Egypt into the land of Judah, and all the remnant of Judah, that are gone into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall know whose words shall stand, mine, or their's.

²⁹And this shall be a sign unto you, saith the LORD, that I will punish you in this place, that ye may know that my words shall surely stand against you for evil:

³⁰Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will give Pharaohhophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that seek his life; as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, his enemy, and that sought his life.

-Mary does not "bring us the gifts of eternal salvation" (CCC 969).

Acts 4:

⁸Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel,

⁹If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;

¹⁰Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

¹¹This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

¹²Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

¹³Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

¹⁴And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

2 Chronicles 6:

³⁶If they sin against thee, (for there is no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before their enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

³⁷Yet if they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;

On May 1, 2011, Karol Wojtyla/ pope John Paul II will become beatifide, one step closer to a Roman Catholic 'saint'

The Roman Catholic Church tells us that Mary and the saints (soon to include Karol Wojtyla) are in heaven and that we can and should pray to them.

This is NOT true.

Read what the Bible, the word of God, says:

Psalm 73

¹Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.

²But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.

The purpose of this blog is to show others that the Roman Catholic Church's teachings contradict those of Holy Bible. While it claims to be the one true church of Jesus Christ, it is actually the exact opposite- it is the church of the antichrist.

So here is more. The Catholic Church claims that Mary is the cause of salvation, despite the Bible's repeated assertion that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone.

Catechism of the Catholic Churh 494:
At the announcement that she would give birth to "the Son of the Most High" without knowing man, by the power of the Holy Spirit, Mary responded with the obedience of faith, certain that "with God nothing will be impossible": "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be [done] to me according to your word."¹³⁹ Thus, giving her consent to God's word, Mary becomes the mother of Jesus. Espousing the divine will for salvation wholeheartedly, without a single sin to restrain her, she gave herself entirely to the person and to the work of her Son; she did so in order to serve the mystery of redemption with him and dependent on him, by God's grace:¹⁴⁰

As St. Irenaeus says, "Being obedient she became the cause of salvation for herself and for the whole human race."¹⁴¹ Hence not a few of the early Fathers gladly assert. . .: "The knot of Eve's disobedience was untied by Mary's obedience: what the virgin Eve bound through her disbelief, Mary loosened by her faith."¹⁴² Comparing her with Eve, they call Mary "the Mother of the living" and frequently claim: "Death through Eve, life through Mary."¹⁴³

CCC 969 "This motherhood of Mary in the order of grace continues uninterruptedly from the consent which she loyally gave at the Annunciation and which she sustained without wavering beneath the cross, until the eternal fulfillment of all the elect. Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the gifts of eternal salvation . . . . Therefore the Blessed Virgin is invoked in the Church under the titles of Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix."⁵¹²

The Bible however (which ironically the Roman Catholic Church asserts that it is the source of, even though it denies its teachings again and again in its Catechism) states:

Acts 4: 10Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Romans 3:

9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Paragraph 851 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

Indeed, God "desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" [1 Tim 2:4]; that is, God wills the salvation of everyone through the knowledge of the truth. Salvation is found in the truth. Those who obey the prompting of the Spirit of truth are already on their way to salvation. But the Church, to whom this truth has been entrusted, must go out to meet their desire, so as to bring them the truth. Because she believes in God's universal plan of salvation, the Church must be missionary.

Paragraph 231 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

231 The God of our faith has revealed himself as He who is; and he has made himself known as "abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness" (Ex 34:6). God's very being is Truth and Love.

Paragraph 215 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

215 "The sum of your word is truth; and every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever" [Ps 119:160]. "And now, O LORD God, you are God, and your words are true" [2 Sam 7:28]; this is why God's promises always come true. God is Truth itself, whose words cannot deceive. This is why one can abandon oneself in full trust to the truth and faithfulness of his word in all things. The beginning of sin and of man's fall was due to a lie of the tempter who induced doubt of God's word, kindness, and faithfulness.

The pope teaches the people of the Roman Catholic Church to do the exact opposite of what we are commanded of God to do (as seen by the above example). This is more than enough of a reason to question all of the popes teachings, and compare him and his church to the only infallible truth of the bible.

There is no such place as Purgatory... it just isnt needed.

----------> Why does the Roman Catholic Church teach that the piece of bread in the Mass, the eucharist, becomes the real body and blood of Jesus? The above verse shows that this is NOT TRUE. Paul taught that "henceforth know we him no more" in the flesh, so the early church of the apostles could NOT have taught that the bread was literally Jesus' flesh and blood. But then the popes throughout history turn, and say that we can see Jesus in the flesh, today (and tomorrow) in multiples of thousands of Catholic Churches around the world.

The Catholic Church claims that it is the one true church, but it doesn't even follow the teachings of the one book that they say is truth; the Bible. How can it be the one TRUE church if it refuses to follow what it itself acknowledges as truth?

If I asked someone for the truth of a subject, and they know it, but they choose not to tell me, aren't they deceiving me? a) if I ask and they say they don't know, they're lying (deceit).

b) if I ask and they tell me something else other than the truth, obviously they are lying (deceit).

c) if they say nothing at all, they have kept the truth from me. And what am I left with? Certainly not the truth.

Communion with the dead. CCC paragraph 2683-
The witnesses who have preceded us into the kingdom, especially those whom the Church recognizes as saints, share in the living tradition of prayer by the example of their lives, the transmission of their writings, and their prayer today. They contemplate God, praise him and constantly care for those whom they have left on earth. When they entered into the joy of their Master, they were "put in charge of many things" (Mt. 25:21). Their intercession is their most exalted service to God's plan. We can and should ask them to intercede for us and for the whole world.

Hello reader,

Thanks for visiting. Better yet, thanks for reading. Lately there's been lots of posting on my blog by spammers. It gets annoying when I get an email in my inbox saying theres a new post by 'anonymous', and all it is is an ad for someone elses website. Theses posts are totally unrelated to my blog.

What is heartening though is that I recently found out that a blogger can check 'stats' on their site. With this I've been re-assured that there ARE some real people reading my posts (and the spam I guess) from different parts of the world (I think thats so cool). It isnt just spamming programs checking out my blog, but real people with inquisitive brains, and hopeful hearts.

I just wanted to take this chance to encourage you readers out there to communicate with me; post your reactions, questions, links to similar sites (or ones relative to the topic). The Bible verses I read, then relate to you here, are often surprising and can seem offensive when compared to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. I hope that there is at least something on this site to leave an impression on you, which you think about after you've read it. If so, let me know.

If you are shocked, or have any reaction at all (that is, any capacity as a human being), I'd love to hear from you. Spelling and grammar dont matter, so even if you cant write in English that well, I still would like to hear from you. Anything to let me know that this blog is more than a spam outlet. If there are any topics or Bible verses you'd like to read more about, let me know. I've decided to leave the spam posts on the blog for now though- hopefully someone will google search for a topic contained in one of those posts, and be brought to this site by the will of God.

We should all get as far from the Roman Catholic Church as it is from the truth.

More hypocrisy and contradiction within the Roman Catholic Church.
While reading other sections of the Catechism this morning, in order to show to a friend the very real misled state of the Catholic Church, I came across another example of it's two faced nature.

In Article 8 of the Catechism (CCC), the truth is attested to :

2464- The eight commandment forbids misrepresenting the truth in our relations with others. This moral prescription flows from the vocation of the holy people to bear witness to their God who is the truth and wills the truth. Offenses against the truth express by word or deed a refusal to commit oneself to moral uprightness: they are fundamental infidelities to God and, in this sense, they undermine the foundations of the covenant.

2465- The Old Testament attests that God is the source of all truth. His word is truth. His Law is truth. His "faithfulness endures to all generations". Since God is "true", the members of his people are called to live in the truth.

2466- In Jesus Christ the whole of God's truth has been made manifest. "Full of grace and truth", he came as the "light of the world," he is the Truth. "Whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness." The disciples of Jesus continued in his word so as to know "the truth [that] will make you free" and that sanctifies. To follow Jesus is to live in "the Spirit of truth," whom the Father sends in his name and who leads "into all the truth". To his disciples Jesus teaches the unconditional love of truth: "Let what you say be simply 'Yes or No.'"

But not long after we have read the above, which seems to testify to the great authority, power, and important place truth has in the life of a Christian, we read these conflicting paragraphs:

Catechism of the Catholic Church paragraph 2488- "The right to communication of the truth is not unconditional. Everyone must conform his life to the Gospel precept of fraternal love. This requires us in concrete situations to judge whether or not it is appropriate to reveal the truth to someone who asks for it".

CCC paragraph 2489- "Charity and respect for the truth should dictate the response to every request for information or communication. The good and safety of others, respect and privacy, and the common good are sufficient reasons for being silent about what ought not to be know or for making use of a discreet language. The duty to avoid scandal often commands strict discretion. No one is bound to reveal the truth to someone who does not have the right to know it."

By hiding the truth, Joseph Ratzinger (who gave his Imprimi Potest/approval for the publication of the Catechism) by his own admission believes he has the right to hide and deny people God, moral uprightness, the covenant, the word of God, Jesus Christ, the light, freedom, and sanctification.

The Popes religion, which shows such disdain for that which is righteous, cannot be the faith of the One True God, who is truth.

Jeremiah 3:¹⁵And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

Many of my family members are Roman Catholic. While I no longer adhere to Catholic doctrine, I agree that some of the tracts of Chick are quite disturbing ( illustrations of the devil and fire tormenting what I see as my family, neighbours and friends are far from enlightening, but rather leave me with a sick feeling in my gut. Others are no doubt affected in the same way, and this can cause them to miss the gems of what is important in the tracts- Bible verses, the very word of God).
I have not seen the tract "death cookie". But I can assume the basis of the tract (why it was made) and the reason for people distributing it is this: they only hope to warn the reader that what the Roman Catholic believes is saving them, is actually a cause for destruction/death.
The Catholic Church teaches that it has complete Apostolic Succession (and therefore the leadership of the church has the same authority and teachings Jesus gave to His Apostles). But we are not being given the same teachings of the original apostles through the Roman Catholic Church.

In Acts 15 we are taught from the apostles that we are to abstain from all manner of blood: "But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day" (Acts 15:20-21).

The reference to Moses being read points to Leviticus:

"Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast, in any of your dwellings. Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people" (Lev.7:26-27).

"Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times" (Lev 19:26).

"And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.
And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.
For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off" (Lev 17:10-14).

The implication is this; Jesus could not have been teaching His followers in the Gospel of John that they must actually eat His real flesh and blood (and that the Lord's supper actually contains these things), because it would mean that Jesus was teaching others to break God's commandments that are found in Leviticus. If the Lord's supper is really Jesus' flesh and blood, then that means even Jesus sinned when he ate it with His disciples (and we know Jesus is sinless). The words of the apostles in Acts 15 further prove that Jesus did not teach as the Catholic Church (that the eucharist is His real flesh and blood), because the apostles reiterate Moses' teachings: dont't eat/drink blood.

It is because of these Bible verses that most Protestant Churches do not teach the Lord's supper is Jesus' real flesh and blood; because it cannot be. It is forbidden by God himself to eat such things.

Verses 152 and 160 show us that Gods word has endured forever, and has been established for forever. This negates such things as Pope Pius XII declaration that Mary was assumed alive into heaven; the pope tried to establish this doctrine in 1950 in his Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus. Mary's Assumption into heaven was not dogmatically defined until 1950, far from the beginning, and making it fall short of forever. Testimonies that God has founded forever dont just suddenly become founded in 1950).

Mary's Assumption Into Heaven: A Burdensome Teaching Not of Christ

The Roman Catholic Church has added to the teachings of Scripture. For example, the assumption of Mary is considered true doctrine by the RCC because it was declared to be so by the pope (when he sat ex cathedra and stated it "infallibly").

"The Catholic Church teaches as dogma that Mary, "having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory."^[1] This doctrine was dogmatically and infallibly defined by Pope Pius XII on November 1, 1950, in his Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus." Yet such teachings are not found in the Bible. And as anyone can see, Nov 1 1950 comes waaayyyy after the divinely distributed message of the book of Revelation.

The book of Revelation was written by John and given to seven of the earliest churches; "What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia: unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea" (Rev 1:11).

In this book we read that that Christ says to the angel/messenger of Thyatira that he "will put upon you none other burden. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come" (Rev 3:24-25).

The belief in the Assumption of Mary came to be defined later (November 1, 1950) in a way by the RCC that demands its acceptance by all who consider themselves true Christians. Clearly, the doctrine of the Assumption of Mary was not a teaching through the Spirit that the early churches had already to hold fast too (Rev 3:25). It was not laid down as a definite article of faith until 1950. If the earliest churches also had this teaching, then it would not have had to have been defined with such exclamation by pope Pius XII as a necessary belief for Christians.

The book of Revelation was written by John in the middle of the first century AD. So then we have evidence that Jesus taught that he "will put upon you none other burden" (Rev 3:24) except that which we had already been given in the Bible. The RCC however, added a new burden for Christians. In order for there to ever be a chance of salvation, the RCC teaches that one must believe that the Assumption of Mary is true.

Therefore, the doctrine of the Assumption of Mary is not a teaching from Jesus Christ. It obviously came after the final book of the New Testament was received. One can find no such teaching in the Bible of the bodily assumption of Mary into heaven. It was necessary for the pope to define it himself in his own terms (no likeness of his statement can be found in the Bible which was already received at the time of the writing of Revelations). The new burden put on Christians by the pope is not of Christ, but of anti-Christ.

Not Apostolic Succession, but Apostolic Agression: An important part of the Bible for Roman Catholics

The Apostolic Succession that the pope claims to have isn't worth a thing, because he does not teach the same doctrines as the first apostles. Consider the letter that the Apostles wrote to the churches in the Book of Acts in the Bible. This is one of the verses in the Bible that teaches Christians to abstain from blood.
The Apostles were keenly interested and involved in the matter that had come up: people began teaching different things than they were. The Apostles, who were filled with the Holy Spirit, reproved those who taught that the commandments must be followed for salvation. The Holy Spirit led them to the only necessary things, which are perfect echoes of the Old Testament.
The pope upholds the RC doctrine that his is the only true church, because its the only one with perfect apostolic succession (direct unbroken line from first apostles, namely Peter, to the pope of Rome today). But the pope does not lead his church with the same teachings as the first apostles. While they teach to abstain from blood (and all the apostles and elders agreed; and no argument over the blood of Christ arose because it never entered their minds that they should drink it for salvation) the pope teaches one must drink the real, actual blood of Christ (which becomes present in the Eucharist at Mass) in order to be saved.

In light of these teachings from the Holy Spirit to the Apostles, the teachings of the pope are the equivalant to blowing your car up with dynamite when you want to restore it.

God is abundant in mercy and truth, but the Pope tries to limit it; and calls it God's will. This can be seen in the Catholic Catechism, paragraph 2488, and 2489 (also referred to in previous posts).

The God one is taught of from the Holy Bible is acutely opposed the one taught in the Roman Catholic Church. Jehovah shows Himself abundant in truth, but Ratzinger says His way is to be so skimpy with it that its like a disease that would do harm (CCC 2488, 2489).

In the Old Testament we can read how the Israelites brought out of Egypt could actually see the presence of the LORD Jehovah with them. It was fully understood, with no room for doubt that their God was with them. What is this eucharist, which the Catholic church sacrifices in the mass, and claims to be fully God? The evidence of God's actual presence among His people is abundant in the Bible and the Torah (see Exodus... and anywhere in these books with an open mind for consideration) but there is no compareable convincing evidence that shows that God is present in the eucharist, or that His church is the Roman Catholic Church. It is only a mystery religion, and the thing about mysteries is that they just don't have enough real evidence to be understood. No sense can be made of a mystery.

The Roman Catholic Church teaches that it is not always best, or out of fraternal love, to speak the truth (CCC 2488, 2489). The choice of when and where to speak the truth is not up to the dictates of an individual (pope or otherwise) as the RCC falsely teaches, but the direction of God.

[Peter did not neglect to teach truth to the people of his day. He established them in the truth he knew. Joseph Ratzinger's words in CCC 2488 and 2489 are the anti-thesis to the above scripure. Peter is called the first bishop of Rome, and yet Ratzinger/Benedict will not even follow his example]

In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition, which was promulgated by pope John Paul II, the second name to which credit is given is Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (he gave the Imprimi Potest: Translated into English, this Latin phrase means "it can be printed.")

[sidenote: does this mean John Paul needed Ratzinger's approval? If the pope claims infallibility, why must an inferior, from an inferior delegation, assure, check, and approve his work for print? It is because the pope is not infallible, even in matters of doctrine and faith.]

I bring focus to the two key people in the printing of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC), because some may not be aware of Ratzinger's involvement, and non-catholics and Cathlolics alike may fall into the trap of assuming that the he has a different theology than the popes seen in the past. What the CCC states as definite doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church, Joseph Ratzinger definitely believes, because he approved it all in the first place. He wanted it printed because his was the final ok. His 'Imprimi Potest' gave the RCC "a full, complete exposition of Catholic doctrine, enabling everyone to know what the Church proffesses, celebrates, lives, and prays in her daily life" (CCC, Apostolic Letter, pg xiv, par 5).

I read the Catechism to try to wrap my head around the ways of the RCC. Why they do this or that. In it can be seen a summary of the Catholic Faith, a so called "sure norm for teaching the faith... and [an] authentic reference text" (CCC, Apostolic Letter, pg xv, par 2) of the Roman Catholic Church.

Thank God when I do read the CCC, I can study it in comparison to the Bible, the norm for the Christian faith with the words themselves breathed out by God, JEHOVAH. The Bible is filled with the cool, clean life giving waters, but the CCC is mixed and muddy, and might as well be sewage run-off when compared to the truth, beauty and perfection of the Old and New Covenants/Testaments.

How can I say this? Because the CCC blatantly shows contradiction within itself. It defines Truth itself to be good and right and pleasing to God, then only a few paragraphs later, commands the stifling and suffocation of that same righteous reality.

In the following paragraphs the RCC, after defining a lie, determines that truth is good, and lies are bad:

CCC paragraph 2482- "A lie consists in speaking a falsehood with the intention of decieving. The Lord denounces lying as the work of the devil: 'You are of your father the devil,... there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

CCC par 2483- Lying is the most direct offence against the truth. To lie is to speak or act against the truth in order to lead someone into error. By injuring man's relation to truth and to his neighbour, a lie offends against the fundamental relation of man and of his word to the Lord.

CCC par 2484- The gravity of a lie is measureed against the nature of the truth it deforms, the circumstances, the intentions of the one who lies, and the harm suffered by its victims. To lie is to speak or act against the truth in order to lead someone into error.

CCC par 2485- By its very nature, lying is to be condemned. It is a profanation of speech, whereas the purpose of speech is to communicate known truths to others. The deliberate intention of leading a neighbour into error by saying things contrary to the truth constitutes a failure in justice and charity . The culpability is greater when the intention of decieving entails the risk of deadly consequences for those who are led astray.

CCC par 2486- Since it violates the virtue of truthfulness, a lie does real violence to another. It affects his ability to know, which is a condition of every judgment and decision. It contains the seed of discord and all consequent evils. Lying is destructive to society; it undermines trust among men and tears apart the fabric of social relationships.

CCC par 2487- Every offense committed against justice and truth entails the duty of reparation, even if its author has been forgiven. When it is impossible publicly to make reparation for a wrong, it must be made secretly. If someone who has suffered harm cannot be directly compensated, he must be given moral satisfaction in the name of charity. This duty of reparation also concerns offences against anothers reputation. This reparation, moral and sometimes material, must be evaluated in terms of the damage inflicted. It obliges conscience.

BUT after defining in detail the horrors of the lie, which "is to speak or act against the truth", and also "affects [a person's] ability to know, which is a condition of every judgment and decision", the CCC commands the reader to be a liar. This is hypocrisy:

CCC par 2488- "The right to communication of the truth is not unconditional. Everyone must conform his life to the Gospel precept of fraternal love. This requires us in concrete situations to judge whether or not it is appropriate to reveal the truth to someone who asks for it".

Wait, wait. What's Ratzinger saying here? That I could ask him myself about or for some truth of the Lord Jesus Christ, and he would be justified in saying 'no'? Those who seek the truth diligently, ask as well as listen, are honouring God and His commandment:

"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets" (Matthew 22:37-40).

If the pope keeps a truth he knows from me, how can it be said that he loves me or you as much as he loves himself?

CCC par 2489- "Charity and respect for the truth should dictate the response to every request for information or communication. The good and safety of others, respect and privacy, and the common good are sufficient reasons for being silent about what ought not to be know or for making use of a discreet language. Even though so much text was spent on defining the evil of lies, and clarifying that the "Lord denounces lying as the work of the devil" (CCC 2482), in paragraphs 2488 and 2489 suppression of the truth from the ignorant is seen as righteous (even though knowing the truth but not sharing it is an obvious "act against the truth" (CCC 2483), and would greatly effect "every judgment and decision" (CCC 2486) of that person to whom the truth could have been told, but was withheld.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6).

Clearly, Jesus, who is the truth, is the only way to GOD the Father. Ratzinger says he brings people to God as the pope, but this is imposible if he sets forth a plan and example on how to keep people from knowing the Truth, which is Jesus Christ. And the popes excuse and plan for deception are laid out in paragraphs 2488 and 2489 of the CCC.

Suppression of the truth means cutting people off from God, and His only Son. This is antichrist, because it certainly isn't in Christ's favour, for His glory.

The Sin Offering Commanded by God

This step by step procedure for the sacrifice to atone for sins is quite different than the one of the RCC. In the Bible, no one drinks the blood of the sacrifice, especially the priest. He was to smear it around in certain areas. It should be noted too that the Sin Offering is not made by human hands; it was truly alive, as is Jesus, filled with the breath of God. Not idle like a dumb cracker (aka eucharist).

Leviticus 16

16:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the LORD, and died;

16:2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.

16:3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering.

16:4 He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on.

Pope Calls For Palestinian Homeland (TIME article)

God's people are commanded to destroy those who worship a different god in the land the LORD gave them. Otherwise, the LORD would remove his peace, and destroy the disobedient.

If the popes are the true chief priests of the Christian Church, why do they always speak so contrary to the words of the Old and New Testaments?

Apparently, the Pope has never read or heard of Psalm 91, or of faith in the True All Powerful God Jehovah. What is "unfathomable" to me is that anyone would look to this man, Joseph Ratzinger, for spiritual guidance when he only boasts in the imagined power of darkness, and denies that Jesus Christ overcame it; " O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Cor 15:55-57). And we know that all things are because of the power and direction of the LORD God anyway (ex Lamentations 3:38), whether or not the events seem good or bad to us.

Pope Benedict XVI's pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a mission of peace and reconciliation: “I will make a pilgrimage to the Holy Land to ask the Lord, while visiting the places sanctified by His earthly life, for the precious gift of unity and peace, for the Middle East and for all humanity.”¹

----------------> Things that make you go 'hmmmm?': that the one man who calls himself holy father, the pope, continues to utter statements that either fully reject God's scripture, or show his lack of faith in it. There is much to be said about this when a 24 year old, (upon reflection, prayer, and some Bible and google searching for only a couple hours) finds contradictory evidence for the claims made by the Pope. The most disgusting of all is that the pope wrongly attributes "unfathomable power of evil when it conquers the heart of man" as if the righteousness of Jesus Christ was unable to overthrow death and all wickedness.

For shame. And its a shame to anyone that listens to him.

The above verses establish that God is One. Even the Roman Catholic Church claims to believe this (seen in the Trinity). But Mary is not part of the Trinity. She consists as a totally separate being from Jesus, our only Father, and the Holy Spirit. This too is held in the RCC.

How can one be loving the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength (this is the first commandment) if they also show an equal attitude to Mary? (eg: more lengthy prayers are to Mary in the Rosary than to God). If any devotion whatsoever is paid to Mary, or the Saints or a pope, instead of the ONE God, then surely the first commandment is broken (and only repentence and belief in the finished work of Christ can make us right with God again).

How can I be so bold as to make the above statement? Because the Bible leaves no room for the greatness that the Roman Catholic Church attributes to Mary; it gives all the glory to God; " the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him" (Deut 4:35); " the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else" (Deut 4:39); " There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God" (1 Samuel 2:2).

Isaiah 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.

As Roman Catholics suffer in L'Aquila, pope claims to be God

In the Roman Catholic Church, the pope is said to be infallible when it comes to matters of faith and morals, as long as when he makes that declaration he does so with a definitive act (see http://andisawabeast.blogspot.com/2008/12/hear-and-see-what-they-are-really.html for more).

Popes throughout history have all tooted the same horn, "so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God" (2 Thessalonians 2:4).

Here are some examples of the created boasting against the creator, and attempting to take his place. Many such statements are recorded all through history, in our libraries, and easily accessible on the internet. But because he claims infallibility all things concerning God (one would find it difficult to argue that an issue of God isnt an issue of faith or "Faith"), and by claiming the position/chair of Peter (this is definitive act), a single statement of calling himself God, means the pope believes still today (if not in heart at least in doctrine passed to future generations) that he is God.

The following are the words of Pope Boniface VIII:

“The pope is of so great dignity and excellence, that he is not merely man, but as if God, and the Vicar of God (non simplex homo, sed qausi Dues, et Dei vicarious). The pope alone is called most holy…Divine monarch, and supreme emporer, and king of kings. …The pope is of so great dignity and power, that he constitutes one and the same tribunal with Christ (faciat unum et idem tribunal cum Christo), so that whatsoever the pope does seems to proceed from the mouth of God (ab ore Deo). …The pope is as God on earth (papa est QUASI DEUS IN TERRA).”

“The Pope is not only the representative of Jesus Christ, but he is Jesus Christ, Himself, hidden under the veil of human flesh.” — Catholic National, July 1895.

“The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in Heaven and earth.” — Pope Pius V, quoted in Barclay, Chapter XXVII, p. 218, “Cities Petrus Bertanous.”

“We hold upon this earth the place of God almighty.” — Pope Leo XIII, Encyclical Letter, June 20, 1894.

1.pope claims infalibility (faith/morals, definitive act all necessary)
2. pope claims to be God. (issue of faith - check...and of course all the morality that comes with the territory of the topic of God)
3. Definitive Act- when the pope was crowned, and from then on claims to have the position of Jesus Christ on earth, and the same authority and position over the church, which is found (claims the pope) on/in the "chair of St. Peter".

So because all the necessary variables are present for the equation of infallibility, the result is = the pope still believes and declares (though not loudly, yet) that he is God. If he didn't, he would be discrediting his own infallibility, and denying a necessary tenet in the Roman Catholic Faith (one MUST believe in the infallibility of the pope in order to be truly Roman Catholic). If the Pope didnt believe his own infallibility then he would be a heretic, and not a Roman Catholic.

So the pope is bound to believe that such statements of Divinity are true, otherwise he wouldnt even be technically a Catholic.

We have established then that: - the pope claimed to be the One God Almighty.
-by making such a statement in St Peters Chair, he claims infalliblity on such a statement (which is directly related to faith and morals)
-the pope is bound to believe all infallible statements of popes before.
-therefore, pope Benedict XVI believes, and teaches (if not indirectly) that he is God on earth.

A Roman Catholic is to believe that the pope is God. But the country of Italy has been devastated by another earthquake. Pope Benedict is said to be praying for the victims, especially the children. But here is a nation that no doubt has a majority of Catholics, and no doubt devote ones.

The pope lays claim to Divinity, yet where are all these terrors coming from? Even he is rocked by them, and it is against his own people (Caltholics). He cant even protect himself from death (no pope has). There are many implications. Why is the current pope involved in so much confusion throughout Chrisitianity and the world? (true church talk, and the necessity of apostolistic succession; on muslims and jews; accepting holocoust deniers; re-latinizing the mass; re-traditionalizing liberal dioceses (eg; that of Chatsworth ON, where the laity became too involved); sex offenders in the ranks; etc). There will be more confusion from him, "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints" (1 Cor. 14:33), and the pope certainly is not God.

Consider This: God has no Mother, and needs no accomplice for our salvation

Isaiah 43:14 - Thus saith the LORD, your redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships. 15 I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.
{In the above verses, the King of Israel, the Lord, is solely, singularly the Holy One for his people. There is, by the title itself, to be no other holy ones. And because there are no other holy ones; that means that the Lord alone is able to redeem us. There is no Co-redeemer, because there is no co-Holy.}

It may seem pretty obvious, but let's look at the root word definition for Consider:

So, as guided by a tenet of the Bible, at the strong and righteous commandment of the prophet John the Baptist "Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Mt 3:2).
To do this we must think about carefully, take into account, regard or treat in an attentive or kindly way what we thought we knew already- especially the Word of God.

In the mode of true repentance then, lets reconsider what we think we know about spiritual things, including Lent. Throughout these 40 days, Catholics are forbidden to eat meat on certain days, are abstinence, want and suffering are encouraged. Such a fuss is made over what should or shouldn't be eaten.
But does the Lord care whether I eat chocolate during this time? Will the Father's wrath be upon me if I just can't go without caffeine? If I slip up, and have a dish with red meat in it on a Friday, am I going to hell?

Let's look to the words of Jesus Christ, and His Father.

Have you considered these words regarding what can and cannot be eaten for spiritual health? Well, even if you have, consider them again, and ask the Lord God, 'Does something that I eat ever have a spiritual help or hinderance effect along with it?':

"And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding? 17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man (Mt 15:16-20).

TIME is awed and wondered by the Popes Indulgences

Recently, in what one would think is the advanced, enlightened year of 2009, I read an article on the TIME website.

One might initially suppose that the Roman Catholic Church has changed since Martin Luther fist began to kick up a fuss over indulgences. It has not changed, except that it only quieted the matter for a bit. But now apparently, official Catholic Indulgences are back in a big way.

It does not matter what the RCC is asking for in return for the blessing of forgiveness, whether it's money or fried eggs, the idea that a person can earn (that is, do something in exchange for) their way into heaven goes against the teachings of scripture.

Ps 44- (Here we read King David understands that everything he is capable of is still not
enough to save himself- in the end he turns to the Lord God for his redemption. Notice too that it’s not for David’s own sake, or the glory of anyone or anything else but God that he would be justified/redeemed. The mighty king still must rely on the mercy of the Lord.)

How can our works compare to those of a perfect loving Almighty God, the Lord Jesus Christ, and add to His for our justification/sanctification ???- Isa 26:12;

Rom 8:30-33 – It is impossible to achieve righteousness by your own actions. To climb
to the standard of righteous by the law, that is, how you fare in obedience to the commandments, is opposed to the good news of the true faith.

Martin Luther was infuriated, not simply because people were throwing away their money, but because the Catholic Church was profiting from the anti-Biblical teaching that some action must be undertaken by the follower of Jesus Christ in order to be forgiven by God. In Luther's case the action on behalf of the Christian was the preferred payment in cash. Today, as outlined in the TIME article, in Ratzinger's Church, more goods and services are accepted for forgiveness; the washing away of sins.

Indulgences to remit punishment for sins (yours and other peoples)? - Ps 49:7-8; Heb 9:22; Ezek 14:14; Col 2:13; Ezek 18:19-21; 1 Jn 2:2; Isa 43:25-26; Isa 44:22; Isa 52:3; Isa 40:1-2; Isa 55:1-3; Isa 63:9; Rom 8:1; Ezek 14:12-20; Ezek 7:13, 19

Even though the RCC may not be financially benefiting from the teaching of indulgences today as it once did, the issue at hand is the fact that it still teaches the opposite of Scripture (the Bible), on the matter of the forgiveness of sins (and all the major points of who, what, where, why, when, and how) which leads ultimately to salvation.

I pray that the work that Jesus did through Paul will be properly celebrated this year and always. The only way to learn of Paul's understanding of forgiveness, salvation, and indulgences is to read what he actually taught, written in the Bible.

The Pope is not teaching faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, and the perfect/whole/entire forgiveness only He can obtain for us, and give freely to us. Instead the pope peddles in the lie that man should have faith in himself, and work as hard and much as he can to be acceptable to God. It is only Jesus who can make us pure before the LORD.

A Message to Abraham's seed, and all who seek God

[The Following letter has been sent to some Jewish organizations, and to several Chief Rabbis, but these things aren't just for those of a council or rank or stature to consider. The following letter involves matters that every human should consider].

To All concerned with Truth, and the praise and glory of the One True God;

I was raised as a Roman Catholic, based on the tradition of my mother’s family, but like many, did not have a strong understanding of Catholicism. At age 19, when my life became dark and chaotic with anxiety and depression, I began to seek out God’s requirements ¬– I needed to make my mind and my heart right before Him.
What began as a small notion of peculiar differences in the faith I had been taught in the Roman Catholic Church, and the teachings which I began studying for myself from the Bible, has grown over five years to the firm belief that they are distinct and opposing theologies. I have lived, read, heard and considered the way of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), and it is the antithesis to the Old Covenant and the New Covenant, written in the Bible.
After reading news articles on the recent comments from Bishop Richard Williamson on the holocaust, and then on the reaction of the American Jewish Council and the chief rabbinate of Israel, I was made so happy that God is continuing to reveal the Roman Catholic Church for what it really is – not His Church. I am persuaded to write you this letter based on the teachings of Ezekiel 33; I have heard the Word of the Lord, and now it is my duty and privilege to warn you of the oncoming enemy.

It is a firmly taught belief of the RCC that the Eucharistic celebration (Catholic Mass) is actually the very same sacrifice of Jesus on the cross; “The Eucharist is thus a sacrifice because it re-presents (makes present) the sacrifice of the cross” (CCC par. 1366; see also 1364, 1365). God commands His people not to ingest blood, even that of the sacrifice (Lev 17), but the Pope teaches Catholics to eat the Eucharist, which he claims is “Christ himself, living and glorious…present in a true, real, and substantial manner: his Body and his Blood, with his soul and his divinity (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC], paragraph 1413. Also see par. 1333).
The Pope and his fellow bishops, claim to be the only successors to the Apostles who walked with Jesus of Nazareth, and the only true teachers of God’s doctrine on earth (CCC para. 938, 1313, 862). Yet those same Apostles made different declarations of faith then the Pope upholds today. The Apostles taught early Christians to also abstain from blood (Acts 15:28-29), but the Pope claims that believers must drink the blood of Jesus (which he says is contained in the bread and wine of the mass) in order to strengthen charity, and clean themselves of ‘venial sins’ and “future mortal sins” (CCC par. 1394, 1395).
But we, because we have been blessed with the knowledge of Scripture, know what is decreed for those who drink blood in their worship of what they believe is God (Ezekiel 33:23-29; Ezekiel 35:6).
If a person upholds the Old Testament as the account of God’s people and His direction to them, how can they also accept a separate and distinct form of priesthood (Malachi 2:8-9)? The priesthood of the RCC is not of the tribe of Levi, and do not follow the ordinations laid out by God to your ancestors.
The Pope teaches through the RCC that mankind would do well to pray to the dead; particularly those he claims have taken a place in heaven as Saints. Catholics are taught that they can not only pray for the dead, but that it is good for them to pray to the dead (they will be heard, and the Saints will make intercession for them) (CCC par. 958). But we are commanded by the LORD that His people are not to communicate with the dead (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). We are shown that the dead have no knowledge or awareness as we have, so prayer to them is useless (Ecclesiastes 9:5,10; Isa 38:18-19; Job 14:19-21; Ps 115:16 -18; Ps 6:5; Ps 40:1-4).
Despite the chastising that Jeremiah gave the remnant of Judah (Jeremiah 7:17-24; 44:15-30), the RCC has eagerly given the title of “queen of heaven” to Mary, Jesus’ mother. Pope Benedict XVI continues to recognize Mary by this title (see “Homily of His Holiness Benedict XVI, Eucharistic Celebration With Bishops, Seminarians and Novices, Saint Mary's Cathedral, Sydney, Saturday, 19 July 2008” and more examples from a search for ‘queen of heaven’ at www.vatican.va). The LORD cursed those who disobeyed his testimonies. The righteous of the Bible never acknowledged a queen of heaven as worthy of any form of worship (Dan 2:17-23; Ps 42:8-11). God’s holiness and position in heaven are unrivaled; He works with no contemporary (Ps 4:8; Ps 148:13; Isa 45:21; Ps 136:4; Ps 148:13). Yet the Pope would have us pray to Mary for that which we should be turning to God; “We can pray with and to her” (CCC par. 2679) (Amos 5:6-8; Isa 42:8). He teaches that Mary was also taken up into heaven, crowned “by the Lord as Queen over all things” (CCC par. 966), and there resides alive for all eternity to be invoked for the “gifts of eternal salvation” (CCC par. 969). There is however only One who inhabits eternity (Isa 57:15), and salvation belongs only to Him (Ps 3:8).
How can two ways of worship that vary so much both be correct? The teachings given to us in the Old and New Testaments are the sure and definite ways of God; therefore, any teaching that does not correspond with that of our Lord is blasphemy and must be repented of. To give an incorrect and flawed form of worship any credence, is to deny the credibility of the God given dictates for the faith of His people found in the Law, the Writings, the Prophets, and the New Testament.
“If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him” (Deuteronomy 13:1-4).
What is most abrasive, is that despite the contradictions within Roman Catholicism, and it’s failure to adhere to the tenets of the Lord God, it still brashly claims that it “is upheld infallibly in the truth” (CCC par. 869).

The Roman Catholic system is a mockery of that given to us by the Breath of God, first written on stone, then paper, then in our hearts, through the living Messiah, Jesus. Within this letter I have only begun to compare the Word of God to the word of the RCC. I implore you to discontinue relations with the Vatican, and investigate these matters further. Many great writers and speakers throughout history and our day have echoed these same sentiments – that the faith of the RCC and that shown in the Bible are far from the same. I strongly recommend you test and compare the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church to that of your own, Judaism, before you accept its teachings as congruently pleasing to God.
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isa 8:20).

Penances and forgiveness

"And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted" (Luke 18:9-14).

The Catholic Church forces one to work for God's forgiveness; even after the sins are confessed, the priest demands things like fasting and alms giving for the sins to be fully wiped away. But in the above parable, its not good deeds that ensure forgiveness, but rather ones heart before God-that it knows it is nothing before a perfect God, and the only thing that can make things right is His perfect mercy. It humbles itself, and depends on what God can do,and does not over glorify the meager actions of men by giving them any credence.

TIME to examine

The point of interest here is the statement which I italicized above. Which Bible version is the Pope quoting? If he is paraphrasing, why? I'd appreciate your comments and ideas.

Hear, and See what they are really saying. Imagine the implications of so called 'infalliblity'.

Jesus Christ had this authority to speak without error all the time. The Pope says he is the Vicar of Christ (that is, he substitutes Jesus; he claims to hold the same position of power and authority as the King of All Creation). If the Pope is what he says he is, he too should be able to teach without error all the time. In all reality, because this is the position of Messiah and Saviour we're talking about, the one who holds the title of Pope, Vicar of Christ, should indeed display all the perfection and greatness in quality as Jesus himself (if one were to believe the boasts of the self-exalting popes).

When comparing the ministry of Christ in the Bible, with the ministry of the popes', (I mean all the popes throughout history, because they've all claimed to be equal to, and in place of Jesus Christ) the Vicar of Christ falls drastically short of displaying any meaningful likeness to Jesus.

Jesus taught without error at all times. If it's true that the pope resides in the same position of authority as Christ, that he too (ie all popes through history) would be perfect. One would have a very hard time arguing this position favourably (for example, the RCC faux pas of the insistence that the world was flat and the center of the universe, and the Vatican pact with Hitler [essay on topic can be read on this blog], and the actions of Pope Stephen VI taken against the dead body of Pope Formosus in what's known as the 'Cadaver Synod' [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadaver_Synod] just to name a few questionable events).

If the Pope is all that he claims to be in the Catchism of the Catholic Church (ex par 882), shouldn't his representation of Christ be perfect all the time, as Christ is perfect, without a "definitive act" (891), being necessary?

Besides, the very fact that the pope insists that he resides in the chair of St Peter (which is actually the chair/position of Christ, as the RC Church claims Jesus gave it up to Peter), is a definitive act. It is said that the Pope is only infallible when he speaks 'ex cathedra', from the position of Peter. But the Pope claims to be in the position and status of Peter always, therefore he is ALWAYS speaking 'from the chair of St. Peter' (Ex Cathedra).

There is no excuse then for any action or comment that seems wayward from the truth of Jesus. As long as a pope is pope and successor of Peter (aka in his chair), the consequence is that he considers HIMSELF to always be infallible. No argument can be made then that the Pope claims only to infallible some of the time (that is, when he sits 'ex cathedra'), because the popes claim to be in the position of Peter/in his chair as long as they live. There is no stepping away from this cathedra/chair because they claim to always occupy it.

But still, the necessity of a definitive act is itself a hindrance to the power of the holy spirit (882).

What I'm trying to get at are the implications for a Roman Catholic if they believe what the Magiterium teaches, and follow these teachings to their conclusions. The Pope teaches he is always right because he says he has the same authority and credibility as Jesus, who passed it on to Peter. Once elected pope, he cannot step out from this position of Peter and comment or act upon anything without it by definition being 100% truth for the RCC.

The pope, as long as he is pope, always speaks ex cathedra, from the Chair of St Peter.
A Catholic then has the entire history of the Vatican that it must consider infallible; in everything the popes have ever done, they are saying they've never been wrong.

This is a bit much to believe.

God saves His Children through the Lord Jesus

"Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins" (Isaiah 40:1-2).

The teaching of the existence of Purgatory or Limbo is no comfort or help to the practicing Roman Catholic who loses a loved one; especially if that loss is a child. What is it to teach the living that the ones who've died are stuck somewhere between heaven and hell? That they still suffer (worse than in life because of the so called sin purging fire) apart from God more than when on earth? That they are stuck there for an unknown amount of time until they are clean enough to enter heaven? These teachings are wrong- they are evil.

Our Lord expresses such opposing sentiments to the painful, terrifying, 'sin cleansing' place called Purgatory of the RCC, that I am sure in telling those who grieve, that there is no such place, and no such judgement over the head of a child.

"At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?

"And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein"
(Luke 18:15-17).

"And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them" (Mark 10:13-16).

These are the words of a God who loves little children. Jesus actually became "much displeased" with those who tried to keep the kids away from Him.

It is ridiculous to think that the Lord Jesus would deny a child the glory of the kingdom of heaven, giving them torment instead, after He so clearly uses "little children" as the definition of "greatest in the kingdom of heaven". Jesus teaches that the ONLY good faith is that of a child, so a child will enter into the Kingdom of God, without a doubt. Because they are given as the best example of a believer, than surely they attain all that is promised to the believer; including eternal salvation.

Look at the high regard that the King of All Creation has for children. Do not fear that evil has come upon a child because they died before baptism.

I think I need to give some clarification on the beginning of my last post. I recently read that infamous paragraph 1540 in the Catechism of the Catholic Church again. But this time, I read it correctly, and I was even more astonished and enraged; what it really said was worse than my first interpretation:

"Instituted to proclaim the Word of God and to restore communion with God by sacrifices and prayer, the priesthood nevertheless remains powerless to bring about salvation, needing to repeat its sacrifices ceaselessly and being unable to achieve a definitive sanctification, which only the sacrifice of Christ would accomplish" (Par. 1540 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition).

In the above paragraph, the Pope, responsible for the release of the book, is putting down and trying to weaken the faith of the Jews by calling them "powerless", and though they may strive for salvation, he claims they cannot get it. According to him, it's out of their reach because they
had ceaseless sacrifices. They could never reach a point where they could say "It is finished" (John 19:30), knowing they had been fully forgiven by God, and accepted into His kingdom. But here's the hypocritical slap in the face; When you stop and think about it, how is the Pope's church with the endless sacrifice of the mass any different?
Pope Benedict XVI condemns the Jews to hell, when he leads others to do the same thing that he says keep salvation at bay. He also denies the power of the word of God, which the priesthood was given to proclaim; even though the Jews had it, they were not saved. However, that same word of God tells us " Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews." (John 4:22). Here in this one verse, Jesus tells us that the Jews have salvation, but the Pope disagrees.

"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." (2Timothy 3:15). Because the Jews had the scriptures, they had salvation. But the Pope disagrees with the Word of God, all the while condemning himself "powerless to bring about salvation" (par. 1540), because of his love of ceaseless sacrifice.

The Roman Catholic Church admits in its Catechism that it and its priesthood are entirely incapable of securing salvation for any soul (see paragraph 1540). Why bother then with an incompetent third party between you and God, when the Bible assures us throughout to “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31)?

Sir Gawain’s Quest For Salvation Through the Roman Catholic Church

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, a romantic poem written in the 14th century, is saturated with doctrine and practice of the Roman Catholic Church. It is the intention of this paper to clarify somewhat the major Roman Catholic themes of Penance, Mary, and the Mass, by hearing what the Church itself has said about them, as well as viewing the life of the knight, Sir Gawain. All of the aforementioned play an important role not only in the period of the poem and in the knighted hero’s experience, but also in the Roman Catholic Church of today.
It is possible, and convenient, to assess the religious practices and beliefs of the generation of Roman Catholics in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight based on those of the Catholic Church today. The Roman Church has maintained throughout the centuries of its existence to be consistent and unchanging in all major practices. This doctrine was put most clearly when the First Vatican Council, begun in 1870, proclaimed that the Roman Catholic Church has always had “the same doctrine, the same sense, and the same understanding” (McCarthy 266). It is fitting then that even before this council made the above decree, a key motto of the Church was “Semper Eadem, ‘Always the Same’” (267). The eternally static form of the Roman Catholic Church is pressed upon even further through its doctrine of infallibility. This doctrine, asserted at the

Second Vatican Council (268), states,“Roman Catholicism holds that [the Pope] does not and cannot teach false doctrine” (268). Because the Church claims that a pope cannot err, to change or even question the proclamations of a current or previous pope would mean denying the doctrine of infallibility, and that the pope had at some time been incorrect. If the Church permits radical change of anything that plays more than only a minor role in its faith, it would be a direct attack on its supposed correctness of the past popes. Therefore, in the words of the Second Vatican Council, the Pope, “as supreme pastor and teacher of all the faithful… his definitions are rightly said to be irreformable by their very nature” (268). If the pope would allow his judgements to change, it would birth the question of error. Were the pope ever wrong, even once leading Roman Catholic Church astray, he could not claim he is the leader of the one true church; his followers would have veered off into falsehood.
The Magisterium (‘master’ in Latin) of the Church, can however further explicate doctrine already in existence, but the underlying meaning cannot be altered (266). The Magisterium ordered this teaching at the First Vatican Council: “The meaning of the sacred dogmas is ever to be maintained which has once been declared by holy mother church, and there must never be any abandonment of this sense under the pretext or in the name of a more profound understanding” (266). It has been said then by the Church that the faith practiced by Sir Gawain would be similar in many ways, if not identical, to the Roman Catholic Church of today. Just like the poem of Sir Gawain’s “ story brave and bold” (Sir Gawain and the Green Knight I.34), the Roman Catholic Church “doth fast endure…whose words are fixed and sure, /Known in the land of old” (I.32-35).
The main character of the poem, Sir Gawain, routinely seeks reconciliation with God, and other people. His actions to this end are imbedded in the Roman

Catholic sacrament known by several official names: the sacrament of Penance, conversion, confession, forgiveness, and Reconciliation (Ratzinger 1423-1424).
It is the understanding of the Catholic Church that after baptism, “this new life as a child of God can be weakened and even lost by sin” (1420). A person of the Roman Church must “prove themselves in the struggle of Christian life” (1426), and do so participating in the sacrament of reconciliation. And so, after Christmas in the season of Lent, Sir Gawain treads the path of faith outlined by the Church in order to prove himself. This can be seen when he eats “fish and… plainer food trying the flesh” (II.503). In his meals the Knight can be seen participating in Roman Catholic penance: “Lent, and each Friday in memory of the death of the Lord are intense moments of the Church’s penitential practice” (Ratzinger 1438). This involvement in the sacrament of penance is hinted at by those around Sir Gawain: “But now this penance take, / And soon ‘twill mend” (Gawain II.987-988). The ‘mending’ they speak of is the forgiveness of sins; “The forgiveness of sins committed after Baptism is conferred by a particular sacrament called the sacrament of… penance” (Ratzinger 1486). The forgiveness of sins through the sacrament is very important to the Church because it “offers a new possibility to convert and recover the grace of justification [which is gained through baptism, and lost through sin]” (1446). It is out of fear of damnation that Sir Gawain seeks confession to a priest, to whom “he declare[s] his faults, confessing them fully” (Gawain III.1880), because the teaching of the Church has pressed upon him that “confession of sins to a priest is an essential element of this sacrament” (Ratzinger 1424). Gawain seeks the “pardon and peace” (1424) that God gives “by the priests sacramental absolution” (1424). Why is it that Sir

Gawain cannot confess to God alone? It is because the Church insists that “reconciliation with the Church is inseparable from reconciliation with God” (Ratzinger 1445); or in other words, Gawain could not be forgiven by God unless forgiven by the Church (i.e.: its priestly representatives). The Roman Catholic Church reaffirms this monopoly of God’s forgiveness throughout history up to today, saying that,

“Beneath the changes in discipline and celebration that this sacrament has undergone over the centuries, the same fundamental structure is to be discerned [in] two equally essential elements…acts of the man…[and] God’s action through the intervention of the Church.” (1448)

While Sir Gawain is preparing to leave on his quest to find the Green Knight, we read that he “draw[s] all his fire from the fivefold joys” of the Virgin Mary (Gawain II.646). The footnote on the ‘fivefold joys’ lists the last of these as the Assumption. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church this doctrine pertaining to Jesus’ mother, is greater in detail: “The Immaculate Virgin, preserved free from all stain of original sin, when the course of her earthly life was finished, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen over all things” (Ratzinger 966). The Assumption of Mary was declared doctrine by Pope Pius XII in 1950, and thus the Church considered infallible what had not been considered a definite article of faith before (McCarthy 266). Since then all Roman Catholics have been bound to believe in the Assumption, whereas before 1950 it was up to personal discretion.

While wandering on his journey, Gawain prays to Mary (Gawain II.736-739, 753-758); a preposterous action to a Protestant, but not to one with the mindset of Roman Catholicism. The Catholic Church professes that, “devotion to the blessed Virgin Mary is intrinsic to Christian worship” (Ratzinger 971), and that she is the one “to whose protection the faithful fly in all their dangers and needs” (971). The Church believes that Mary acts in a motherly yet powerful fashion to its members from her position in heaven (975). Again, Gawain is merely acting consistently with the unchanging Roman Catholic Church.
In the narrative of Sir Gawains tale, the Roman Catholic sacrament of the Eucharist is participated in the mass nine times. As the reader and characters progress in time through the story, seasons and days pass, and three Feast Days celebrating the Saints and angels are pointedly noted; Michaelmas, Allhallows, (Gawain II.530-536), and St. Johns day (II.1021). In the Church Catechism released by pope John Paul II, written and assembled by a committee overseen by the then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, a firmly asserted schedule for eating the eucharist is given: “The Church obliges the faithful to take part in the Divine Liturgy on Sundays and feast days and, prepared by the sacrament of Reconciliation, to receive the Eucharist at least once a year, if possible during the Easter season” (Ratzinger 1389). As if the point is not clear enough, the Catechism continues, saying that, “the Church strongly encourages the faithful to receive the holy Eucharist on Sundays and feast days, or more often still, even daily” (1389).
Let us suggest then that the poems characters celebrated the mass twelve times (maybe once a month, as can be counted from the text). Any one thing that

occurs so often in any poem is worth noting. The mass is of great importance to the Catholic Church as a whole, not just Sir Gawain and the lord he meets (Gawain III.1412-14150). The Roman Catholic Church outlines this importance, claiming, “The Eucharist is the ‘source and summit of the Christian life’. The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it” (1324). The eucharist is to be the great focus for the Roman Catholic Church because they claim that, “in the most blessed sacrament of the Eucharist ‘the body and blood, together with the soul and divinity, of our Lord Jesus Christ and, therefore, the whole of Christ is truly, really, and substantially contained’” (1374). The eucharist is actually presented in the Roman Catholic faith as Jesus, as present as before and after the Resurrection: “Christ Jesus […] is present… most especially in the Eucharistic species” (1373).
Because of its own decided doctrine, the eucharist is entirely necessary to those who try to adhere to Roman rule. The eucharist is as necessary to the Roman Catholic faith as the person of Jesus was to his first disciples, because “in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch” (1324). In the theology of the Catholic Church, without the reception of the eucharist they give, there is no salvation. This is evident when the Church attributes to the eucharist an active, accomplishing character; that “the Eucharist is the efficacious sign and sublime cause… by which the Church is kept in being” (1325). This round piece of bread accomplishes great wonders, and “the Eucharist is also a sacrifice…because it re-

presents (makes present) the sacrifice of the cross” (1365-1366). The popes have handed down the tradition that this sacrament at the mass “makes present the
one sacrifice of Christ the Saviour and includes the Church’s offering” (1330). What is the Church’s offering which Sir Gawain cried to Mary for? The Council of Trent said it best for the Church in 1562: “In this divine sacrifice which is celebrated in the Mass, the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and offered in an unbloody manner … this sacrifice is truly propitiatory” (1367). Undoubtedly, Sir Gawain pained to be with Jesus, out of the cold, in a nearby chapel the night he wandered. The courtly knight would have followed the example of the pope and the Magisterium subject to him, which impressed that “because Christ himself is present in the sacrament of the altar, he is to be honored with the worship of adoration” (1418). Consistently the Church has made suggestions and additions to the Christian faith that, like the one just mentioned, have no basis in scripture (though of course there is not time in the length of this essay to debate much of Catholic doctrine with Scripture).
What was considered Gawain’s communion with the Church in the Middle Ages would still be lauded as that today. The Church of Rome has assessed the “basic lines of the order of the Eucharistic celebration [as early as the second century]” (1345) by using the “witness of St. Justin Martyr” (1345). They conclude, “they [the Eucharistic rituals] have stayed the same until our day for all the great liturgical families” (1345). Just as is contended for all Church doctrine, “the Liturgy of the eucharist unfolds according to a fundamental

structure which has been preserved throughout the centuries down to our day” (1346). Sir Gawain longed to be at the mass to worship Jesus in the bread. The knight is as consistent and obedient in his Roman Catholic religion as he is in his courtly duties.
It is interesting to witness that despite Sir Gawain’s impeccable Catholic religious practices (his penance, devotion to Mary, and worship in the mass), when in private confession with a priest, his outer cover of a flawless hero cracks. The Knight, because of his immersion in a religion of imposed practices, and unnecessary burdens, has been kept from the very thing that he sought- eternal life:
[He] approached in private a priest, and prayed him / To make his life purer, more plainly him teach / How his soul, when he had to go hence, should be saved (Gawain III.1877-1879).

-after the His death on a cross, Jesus ministry could have been seen, as Walker puts it, as “’a nine-day wonder’, a brief ray of light in an otherwise depressingly black sky” (154).

The after effects of a dead Messiah:

-it would be hard to see why Jesus of Nazareth, a man who was born more than 2000 years ago, has been followed by so many people throughout history since then, and today is followed by millions, if He simply died a detested man, and was put away to rot.
-by His words and actions He claimed to be Messiah. No Jew, or anyone for that matter, would take His claims seriously if His story ended here on a couple pieces of splintered wood. Walker puts it bluntly when he says, “a dead Messiah is a failed Messiah” (154).
-something must have happened that caused a significant number of Jews and Gentiles to laud Jesus as the Messiah shortly after His death, and lead up to what we see today: Jesus being the most talked about figure of history, and a third of the world’s population claiming to adhere to His teaching (155).
-“crucified criminals do not normally have this kind of effect” (155).
- there must be a reason for the resulting sect of Jesus.
-the New Testament tells us that Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion; also known as His resurrection.
-though this information may seem unbelievable, it is a solid explanation for all that followed.

The resurrection: the evidence of history:

-Walker points out that the historical Jesus means for many people the Jesus before Resurrection Sunday, b/c the recorded events of that day seems too fantastic to be true history.
-Walker lays it out that the scholarly study of history doesn’t decide before hand what’s allowed to have happened, and it can’t choose what it wants to uncover (156).
-when viewed in this proper way, the resurrection is the historical fact with the most clout behind it (156).
-earliest evidence of the resurrection is from Paul’s epistle, 1 Corinthians, written around 55 AD, and shortly after that came Mark’s Gospel in roughly 67 AD (157).

The earliest evidence:

-b/c Paul wrote 1 Cor. Within 25 years of the of Jesus rising from the grave those who were around to see Jesus, talk to Him, and to others who had experienced Him after the cross were still alive to verify or refute such an idea. So these events had taken place within the living memory of the people of Israel (157).
-in 1 Cor. Paul shows us that the story of the resurrection goes back to the beginning of Christianity, and in Acts it was the foundation of what the apostles preached.
-in Mark’s gospel the narrative of the resurrection is told as a person would expect of a sudden, mind boggling experience. It doesn’t come across as a refined, perfect story, like what is mostly seen when something’s made-up.
-Walker believes that both Mark and Paul are passing on “very early traditions” (159).

The unexpected event:

-it is interesting to note that both Paul and Mark make it clear that Jesus’ resurrection was not something that they thought would happen.
-Paul, as a strict Pharisee, would have thought the very idea of a crucified Messiah was a blasphemy (159), so it’s not something he would have made up, or easily believed.

The variety of resurrection appearances:

-In all four gospels, the first people to see the risen Jesus were all women. If the story were an invented one, it would definitely work against itself on this point, because women weren’t viewed very highly in the culture at the time, and “a woman’s evidence was not admissible in a court of law” (160).
-As put by Walker, “it lays the whole claim open to ridicule” (160).
-Paul reminds the reader that there was a period of about 40 days when Jesus proved to many disciples, even a group of 500, that He was very much alive (161).
-When Paul is talking during his trial to king Agrippa and Festus, he brings to the peoples attention that the things of Jesus’ life, ministry and resurrection, were not hidden from the public eye, but done openly so that the events couldn’t go unrealized even by the king (Acts 26:26).

Diverging accounts:

-some people view the different accounts of the resurrection as contradictory. There are a few differences between the Mt, Mk, Lk, Jn, and 1 Cor. Account. These include Mt’s telling of an earthquake and guards posted at Jesus’ tomb, how Lk has no appearance of Jesus listed in Galilee, and the differing points of the angel/angels/young man in Mt, Lk, and Mk (161-162).
-these points are reconcilable though. If the stories were all identical then one would presume they were all a lie (162).
-all in all, as Walker writes, the resurrection “is a powerful story and it hangs together remarkably well even after all these years” (162).
-On pg 163 Walker limits the conclusions of what happened to Jesus down to two possible scenarios; “Either the tomb was empty or it was not” (163). You can’t have it both ways.
-Walker urges the reader to look at the objections (what people say to disprove the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth).

Option 1:the tomb was empty:

-those who claim this likely realize how stupid it would’ve been for Jesus disciples to say He was alive when his body was still in the grave (163).
-the person must then consider why the tomb was empty.
-Possibilities: -His body was stolen
-He didn’t die on the cross, and after 3 days he was well enough to come out (known as the ‘swoon theory’).

Swoon Theory- wasn’t considered until 18th century.
-meant the Roman soldiers didn’t kill Jesus. MOST unlikely. In Jn 19:34, soldiers pierce Jesus’ side, out comes blood and water. This is now understood by modern medicine to be a sign of death.
-so Jesus, beaten, hung in hot sun, stabbed, lain on a big cold rock, tightly wrapped in spicy cloth, gets up later, pushed aside a huge boulder, to “convince people [H]e was to be worshipped as the Lord of Life?” (164).
-His claim would’ve been pretty weak, maybe almost as bad as this theory.

Body was stolen- Jewish leaders wouldn’t have wanted the body hidden, but likely would’ve gladly shown it to all (if it hadn’t been against their purity laws).
-Romans felt the same way (didn’t want Jesus worshipped as King).
-some suggest the disciples did this- Hardly plausible. They were terrified, and after Jesus’ crucifixion, only met in locked up rooms (Jn 20:19). (164).
-as if they’d be able to sneak past the guards without being seen or heard!
-stealing the body would’ve been a capital offence. Not likely a move they’d make, considering their Teacher and Lord, not to mention the God they served.
-why’d the disciples die for such a hoax? It’d be very hard not to give up such a story under torture and death (164).
-this theory makes me think of Weekend at Bernie’s.

-So this all means there must be another reason for the empty tomb.

Option 2: Jesus’ body was still in the tomb:

-Some say the tomb was never empty.
-“the women may have gone to the wrong tomb” (165). This is weak. Someone would’ve loved to take the women to the right tomb to prove them wrong.
-some argue that the accounts of the resurrection are fine, but that it was only ‘spiritual’. This is still a common belief today.
Walker refutes this purely ‘spiritual’ belief: -the word ‘resurrection’ is Greek (anastasis) for “making to stand up” or raise up (165).
*do Don’t Wake D. thing
-The Jews believed that “God would raise people from their graves, making them ‘stand up’” (165). Even the Pharisees believed this, as we can see in Acts 23:6-9.
-it was unusual for the first Christians to claim this had happened to Jesus, not because it was foreign to Jewish tradition, but because they said it had happened to a Man in the middle of history, not at the end of time as expected (165).

-to the disciples then, who were Jews, this was not a ‘spiritual’ resurrection, but the very body of Jesus had been raised up
-so then it isn’t possible for the body of Jesus to still be in the tomb. If it had been the claim of Jesus’ followers could’ve been refuted immediately (168).

-The disciples were sure that they had seen Jesus several times. These claims of contact, and the evidence of the empty tomb meant “Jesus had come back from the dead” (168).

Q): Can you think of any other facts that go against this argument?

The resurrection of Jesus:

-the appearances of Jesus couldn’t have been a mass hallucination, based on what science now knows about them (168).
-in Walker’s text he has all the appearances of Jesus after His resurrection on pg 166-167.
-“If Jesus was not raised from the dead, then what we have studied so far has only a limited value” (169)
-when we see truth of the resurrection of Jesus, “His teaching [then] comes with the evident backing and authority of the God of Israel” (169).

Ch. 12: Jesus’ Followers Reflect-

Primitive but powerful:

-although there are some people who think the speeches in Acts are made up, the fact that they use undeveloped, unedited, off the cuff language about Jesus is a good sign that they are accurately recalled by Luke from the early days of the church (172).
-Peter’s famous speech is found in Acts 2 (Walker has some excerpts from it pg 173).
-these speeches are very powerful, and say very important things about the person of Jesus.

-according to Walker, Peter makes four key claims about Jesus.

Claim 1: Jesus, the fulfillment of Israel’s hope

-this conviction can only be understood in a Jewish context (174).
-Peter claims that God has given a new King like David, just what the Jews had been waiting for. It’s Jesus, and His throne is everlasting at the Fathers right hand.
-Israel had been waiting for a prophet like Moses- it was Jesus.
-Jesus is the blessing that was to come through Abraham’s descendants- “first for Israel, then for the world” (174).
-Jesus is connected “in a vital way to the God of Israel” in Peter’s speech (174).
-Peter announces that Jesus is the fulfillment of the covenant made with Israel (174).
-Peter and other apostles searched and quoted from the OT to explain Jesus (174).
-Walker reminds the reader that to take Jesus out of His Jewish, OT background is dangerous, because it’d be denying that He is the fulfillment of Jewish prophecy.

Q): What’s the difference between king David’s throne, and king Jesus’ throne?
(His throne is everlasting at the Fathers right hand.)
Q): How is Jesus connected to God’s covenant with Israel?
(He’s the fulfillment. Prophet like Moses. King like David.)

Claim 2: Jesus the Messiah, the rejected king

-title of Messiah for Jesus is used in these speeches, meaning that “Jesus embodies in [H]is own person the destiny of Israel” (175). ‘Christ’ is Greek for Messiah, and it’s not simply Jesus’ last name.
-the resurrection was to show that Jesus is the true Messiah (175).
-even though Jesus did not seem to fulfill the hopes that Jews had for the Messiah, that He would free them from pagan rule, Peter and the other disciples hailed Him as Messiah because of the resurrection: “No resurrection, no messianic claim” (176).
-people have to realize that something happened that spurred the disciples to claim Jesus as the Messiah- if Jesus was dead in His tomb they wouldn’t have promoted Him in such a way as they did (177).
-the disciples were called Christians because this is what they were all about- claiming that the Christ, the Messiah had come (176).

Claim 3: Jesus the Lord:

-Peter claimed “God had made this Jesus both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36, 177).
-this was bold, because in context, Lord (kurios in Greek) could mean ‘boss’, it could mean power and authority (like Caesar), but for Jews it mainly spoke of God himself (177).
-they were “ascribing to [H]im a share in God’s identity and activity” and they knew it (177).
-they confessed Jesus as God, and worshipped Him. It’s no wonder that Jews had a problem with the early Jewish Christians.
-Peter says that Jesus was the “Holy and Righteous One […] a clear hint that [H]e somehow embodied the very holiness of God Himself” (181).
-“Jesus was the [O]ne through [W]hom people could receive ‘forgiveness of sins’ because of [H]is life laid down in death […] this was the central act of salvation” (182).
-Jesus commands us to remember His act of dieing for the forgiveness of sins in the Lord’s Supper (182).

Q): What’s one reason why Jews had a problem with early Christians?
(They claimed Jesus was God- made worse because many used to be devout Jews)

Claim 4: Jesus the Saviour

-Peter emphasizes Jesus role of Saviour. Jesus had come to “achieve something for others […] forgiveness in the sight of a holy God” (181).
-Rd Rom 5:8; 1 Pet 2:24; 1 Jn 4:10; Eph 1:7 (all found on pgs 181-182).

Conclusion:

-The reason for the impact of the short ministry and life of Jesus is the fact of the resurrection.
-Walker says that “the story of Jesus can become the story for all people, [and] we are still living in the ‘life and times’ of Jesus” (184) because the resurrection means Jesus is alive today.

The relationship between the Vatican and Hitler’s Nazi Germany, epitomized by the Concordat between them, brought worldwide acceptance and pardon to the Fascist state. Both the Reich and the Holy See eagerly sought a political agreement with one another, despite the ramifications for the Catholic and non-Catholic people of Germany. In preparation for the “Reichskonkordat”, the Catholic Centre Party was terminated so that Hitler would be enabled to govern, and make treaties without internal government opposition. With the signing of the Concordat came many moral implications, as well as political, which resulted in a distressed Europe.
Before Adolph Hitler even began his political career, his intention to work with, and not against, the Catholic Church was clear. He stated in his book, Mein Kampf, “that a confrontation with the Catholic Church in Germany would prove disastrous” (1, 105). Unlike Bismarck, Hitler believed he understood the Catholic Church, and that “Providence [had] made [him a] born Catholic” (2, 167). He was aware of the influence of the Church in Germany (2, 167), and was eager to use this to his advantage. With a Roman Catholic Concordat would come legitimacy, and honour for the Nazi Party (2, 173). More importantly, with such an agreement it would be easy “to obtain control over, if not to eliminate, the refractory Centre Party [, which was entirely Catholic]” (2, 173). With 92 seats, the Catholics of the Centre Part (some of them priests) could still oppose the Nazi majority (2, 173). This was an annoyance to Hitler, because without two-thirds of the Reichstag’s votes (3, 184) he could not take advantage of the “Ermachtigunggesetz [(Empowering Enactment),] which would give him full dictatorial powers” (2, 173). By using false accusations of arson, Hitler had already dealt with the German Communist party which stood between him and his armoured political paperwork.

Looking to Mussolini as his precedent, Hitler could see that by making minor concessions to the Vatican (especially those dealing with schools), the Pope may agree on some issues beneficial for the Nazi Party; the disbanding the Centre Party in particular (2, 174). Hitler approached the Holy See with the following proposal; “if the Vatican would use its influence to secure him the vote of the Centre Party” (3, 184) then “the Catholic Church should have a special position of privilege in the New Reich” (3, 184). Not only was Hitler concerned about the Centre Party, but also with the entirety of the German Roman Catholic population, which had “extensive links and associations on many levels throughout the country” (1, 133). Fortunately for the Nazis, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Egenio Pacelli (soon to be crowned Pope Pius XII), was just as ambitious for a German Concordat (1, 133).
If Hitler could not govern under the parliamentary Empowering Enactment, the German people, the majority of which were Protestant (1, 150), would not agree to a treaty between their state and the Vatican. It was necessary then, for Ludwig Kaas, chairman of the Centre Party, who was “indeed deep in negotiation with Hitler, as well as in close communication with Pacelli in Rome” (1, 135), to urge his party on March 22-23, 1933, to vote yes on the act (1, 135). The Centre Party favoured the proposition on the assumption that Kaas understood the situation best, because of his prior dealings with Hitler and Cardinal Pacelli (1, 136). The result of the vote was a majority for Hitler, despite the nays of the Social Democrats; now Hitler alone was the governing body, creating laws and foreign policy by his own dictates (1, 136).

On July 20, 1933, the Reichskonkodat was signed (after an unusually hasty eight days of negotiations) (2, 176), and published later the same month (4, 43). In this their “first great diplomatic triumph” (4, 43), the Nazis agreed on 35 Articles (3, 189), with Article 31 being most important to, and yet concurrently lethal to the Church (2, 176). In it the Roman Catholic Church was granted “the uninhibited freedom of action for all Catholic religious, cultural and educational organizations, associations and federations” (2, 176). The Article also stated that Catholic organizations would have “the protection of the State provided they were non-political” (2, 180). Hitler had taken advantage of the authority of the Pope over the Catholic people in Germany, especially the clergy, by using canon law; “It was the ultimate authoritarians’ Church-State charter” (1, 147).
Prior to the finalizing of the Concordat, to accelerate negotiations, the Vatican demanded the cessation of the political Centre Party in anticipation of Article 31; the Vatican hoped this “would ensure the success of Pacelli’s diplomacy” (1, 148). Cardinal Pacelli had verified the Vatican’s stance on the Centre Party in an interview held with the British Minister; the disbanding of the Party, “and its consequent loss of influence in German politics” brought nothing but indifference (2, 175-6). The Centre Party, which had restrained the Nazi regime through parliament, declared its intent to disband on July 5 1933, finalizing “its own death sentence” (3, 187). The Catholic Party that had been “disowned by the Vatican” (2, 178) was removed to “clear the way to absolute Nazi dictatorship”, even before the Concordat was signed (3, 187).
After the Secretary of State Pacelli (acting as representative of the Pope) signed the Concordat the entirety of the Roman Catholic Church had been bound

“with a racist and anti-Semitic government” (1, 154). Only days before this signature, Hitler expressed his interpretation of the Reichskonkordat, and it’s immediate ramifications, in newspapers throughout Germany;
The conclusion of the concordat seems to me to give sufficient guarantee that the Reich members of the Roman Catholic Confession will from now on put themselves without reservation at the service of the new National Socialist state (1, 152).
The respect Hitler believed his regime was worthy, came when it was still in its infancy; “the Third Reich had been given full approval by the highest spiritual power on earth” (2, 177). Within all levels of the Catholic Church, guidance on issues of morality, spirituality, and politics, comes from the Pope (5, 102). It is impossible then for the papacy to speak or act, without the members of his Church to interpret such as approval, or disdain;
Thus [these interpretations are] not confined to the theoretical or religious fields. It can become, and very often is, a problem of the most cogent and immediate concern for both the individual and society as a whole (5, 117).
The benefit of the Concordat for the National Socialists was two-fold; “it bestowed on Hitler recognition in foreign politics; in domestic politics it integrated the Catholics and their rebellious episcopate and clergy into the Nazi system” (6, 178). Because of Article 31, no Roman Catholic, clergy or lay, could oppose the persecution of the Jews, the Law for Prevention of Genetically Diseased Offspring (which called for the sterilization of whomever the Nazis saw fit), the militaristic endeavours, or any other

policy of the Fascist German government without some form of derision from the Nazis or the Church (1, 153). The Roman Catholic Church, large and authoritative, could have easily opposed the immorality of the National Socialists (1, 157). The words of Eugenio Pacelli in 1934, though referring to Nazi Germany against Communism, come with the brutal sting of irony;
Rather do they destroy that which is the most effective and most decisive means of protection against the very evil which is feared, and, consciously or otherwise, work hand in hand with the enemy they think, or at least claim, to combat (3, 196).
The German Concordat, finalized in the earliest stages of Hitler’s totalitarian reign, blessed the Nazis with global acceptance and permission from the Roman Catholic Church to conduct itself as arguably the basest state in history. With little consideration of the possible outcome for Europe and the globe, the Vatican endorsed Hitler’s political and ideological aims, while simultaneously quashing the opposition from within the Church.

At Baptism, the Roman Catholic Church promised me salvation, the “eternal life” they claim to have to give, but yet they insist that it is readily lost with the sins that I later committed. If the salvation they boast of, that they are the only disperser of this promise of our Lord Jesus Christ, and it does not last but moments/an unknown fraction of my life, how dare the Pope call it eternal life. The Roman Church does not have an eternal life to give. It’s ‘justification’ is a fleeting, impossible to attain tease. The Pope has only momentary life to give. He lies when he says otherwise.

(remember, Jesus was come from the LORD God in the first place, so have faith that He would not have been rejected. See the Epistle of Paul to the Hebrews.

The Roman Catholic Church admits in its Catechism that it and its priesthood are entirely incapable of securing salvation for any soul (see paragraph 1540). Why bother then with an incompetent third party between you and God, when the Bible assures us throughout to “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31)?
